How can you cope with negative people at work who stand in the way of your progress? In this video, I tell you how to get along with difficult people so that they won’t stop you on your path to success.

We encounter both “enablers” and “disablers” in life and at work.

Some of your colleagues have a positive outlook. They’re up for new challenges, they welcome new ideas, and they want to move forward. I call them “enablers” because they enable you to reach your full potential by encouraging your growth

Then there are negative people at work who are hard to handle. “Disablers” discourage you and drain your energy. They gossip, stir up trouble, and sap your strength. They’re defensive and combative because they view you as a threat.

It’s hard to understand and deal with people who seem to be against you. Learning how to get along with difficult people can make things easier.

Negative people at work can make your workday miserable. Your best bet is to avoid difficult coworkers. You can’t change them, so accept who they are, and steer clear of them when you can.

Of course, sometimes avoidance is impossible. When you do have to interact with toxic colleagues, keep your emotions in check. Resist the urge to fight. Stay calm. Smile and nod along. And then dismiss their negative comments.

Most importantly, surround yourself with positive coworkers who support you. You can trust them to have your best interest at heart and to help you achieve your goals.
